Charleston is well known for its mild climate. You will find the weather in this region pleasant most of the year. Unlike our friends to the south we actually have mild seasonal changes. For a couple of the summer months it will get a bit warm and humid but the much longer mild periods clearly offset the few hot days. We also have a few cold snaps in the winter sometimes in the 20?s but rarely lower. The winters are brief and the nice days pop up often to keep the spirits up.
You can go ahead and sell your snow blowers and shovels at your next yard sale. Snowfall is rare. My ten-year-old daughter was able to build her second snowman ever in early 2002. She was really excited but unfortunately the 14-inch snowman melted within hours. Short sleeve shirts in December and January are fairly common. Average January highs are around 59 degrees with lows at 38 degrees.
Spring comes early with a floral display of azaleas, dogwoods, redbuds and magnolias that you will not believe. Autumn is my favorite time of year as the sky takes on brilliant colors and the leaves began to change. Wow! This is the place to enjoy subtropical climate with all the advantages and beauty of the changing seasons.
